Oh Canada!!

11th September, 2011 10pm

The last couple of days have felt like a whirlwind.

The train ride from NY to Niagara Falls yesterday was a disaster! We were stopped due to power lines over the track near Albany NY, caused by the recent rain from Hurricane Irene. We were ordered off the train and then back on again, it was pretty chaotic, but out of anyone’s control so we just rolled with the punches. It was slow going after that because the erosion was pretty bad, they were worried about the tracks. We were stopped again because of the backlog of trains and again for who knows what reason. The trip that was supposed to be 9 hours turned into 15 hours.

We finally crossed the border, got our stamps and checked into our beautiful hotel room. We splashed out and got a room that you could actually see the falls from. There are massive spotlights on the Falls at night and it was spectacular. However, it was hard to grasp the scale of it until we saw it in the daylight. It really is an amazing spot. The volume of water going over that edge is gobsmacking. The spray from the falls can be felt a long way away, so when you are next to them it just feels like it’s lightly raining and a bit heavier if the wind picks up. We both loved it so much, and have decided that we will definitely be coming back to Canada with a few weeks up our sleeves to see it all properly. I’m glad we stopped over to get a taste for it.

THE AMOUNT OF WATER IS UNBELIEVABLE... WE'VE GOT SOME VIDEO OF IT

We caught a bus from Niagara to Toronto today and got in late afternoon. We just went for a quick walk and got some dinner and came home to get the washing done. We fly out tomorrow evening so we’ll have most of the day to check out a few of the city’s highlights in the morning.
