Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!!!

7th September 2011 – 10pm

Hey,

I thought it was time I contributed to the memoirs!

After arriving in New York I instantly thought that this is different class of city to LA and SF. Everything is relatively clean, the people dress smartly, and there are next to no homeless at all.  In the first day in SF we probably saw 50 homeless people, today possibly 2. I realise it’s probably got a lot to do with climate but still a good change!

There was this nice couple on the first train we jumped on which helped us out getting to the right place.  Being a bit overly cautious I asked if the area was ok at night to walk around as we were getting in pretty late, they both laughed straight away and said ‘Absolutely! But perhaps not in the 1970’s!’. I felt a bit silly and Amy said I went bright red! Haha. But we soon realised they were right, it is a bustling, safe place.

Our Hotel is in NW Manhattan about 3 blocks west of Central Park. We sleep directly above a Starbucks and about 20m from the hotel is an entrance to the subway. The subway in itself is mind boggling, there are multiple subway floors with multiple tracks that can literally take you anywhere in the city… and believe it or not, so easy to navigate! LA needs to take a big lesson from these guys as they are so spread out with an insufficient system to handle the 40+ million residents over there.

I couldn’t have imagined seeing as many people, taxis, LCD screens and neon lights as there was at Times Square (a triangle btw!). It’s a very cool, jaw dropping place.  I won’t go into it much as the words aren’t really there.

We found ourselves at another Hard Rock café this afternoon after I advised Amy I want to have a few drinks in this place.  I bring this up as the only person I really met there today was an Aussie and was ALSO the only one I saw to fall off her barstool! Possibly a clumsy accident but I like to draw my own conclusions… Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi!
